For centuries, from the trade ships of Columbus to those of Cheng Ho, the Chinese Merchant fleets, Gourmet Coffee have reigned the seas as one of the key merchant commodities most actively traded across the continents. You start to wonder what makes the Gourmet Brew so attractive that the coffee culture over the centuries and round the globe. It has become the epitome of coffee culture elegance and chic. Good food cannot do without a cup of gourmet brew, with some costing 65 dollars a cup. Now cost is any indication of the brew, that cup of kopi luwak is the most expensive and best tasting cup of gourmet coffee indeed.

How an Electric Coffee Maker Works

Basically, electric coffee makers work by using a heating element to heat the water in the reservoir. The hot water is siphoned up through a tube and then sprayed onto the coffee grounds. The hot water then hits the coffee grounds, and the coffee drips down into the pot, which is on a warming plate to keep it hot until you drink it.

Coffee bean origin is one critical factor in determining your gourmet brew. Note that it is the key geographical growth locations which give your coffee its distinctive flavor, as this has got to do with the original soil. The mineral rich volcanic soils of Hawaii give a very different taste sensation compared to those from Africa or South America. Coffees grown within an exclusive plantation yields better quality control.

The Future of Coffee Makers

Home coffee makers are so widespread in the west that nearly every household has at least one on the kitchen counter. Yet things started to change once coffee chains like Starbucks started opening on corners worldwide. Since coffee shops can make specialty coffee drinks that you probably wouldn’t make at home, many people started choosing not to make their cup of joe at home anymore.  Coffee chains opened all over the world, buoyed by the voracious appetites of coffee lovers willing to fork over four bucks for a cup of coffee.

Is a Genuine Espresso Possible?

At the very pinnacle of coffee makers is the espresso coffee maker. These machines are the most expensive and can be the most hi tech. They range in price from a couple of hundred dollars to several thousand for a top of the line machine. So is paying the extra worth it? To be honest that really depends on your coffee drinking habits.

If all you drink is the occasional espresso then a lower end pure espresso maker will fit the bill. If you’re a more regular drinker and want a mix of styles then a combination coffee and espresso maker will probably suit you better.

Many of these coffee makers are fairly complex machines, some with many options and abilities. The down side of this is that there is a lot more to go wrong and they do wear out. A proper espresso maker will push hot water through the coffee at fairly high pressure so they don’t last forever, so take care if you’re looking at the low end of the budget scale.

It may make more sense to pay a little more for an espresso coffee maker that is well made and will last longer than the cheaper models
